Beaudesert Park School has launched new guidelines for families on how to manage digital devices.
The guide details how technology is used at school, and gives parents advice on how to manage children’s digital access at home.
The School's plan of action evolved through consultation with parents, staff, their current pupils, and external experts.
Anna Packman, Head of Pre-Prep and leader of the Digital Perspectives initiative, said, “The guidelines we have put together focus on how we can meaningfully support our children and parents in managing the digital world.”
“Parents have asked for structure and support to uphold boundaries at home, and clear school guidance means we can work towards joined up thinking to ensure age-appropriate access, and help protect children against inappropriate content online.”
“Our intention is to give clear parameters to work around, recognising and respecting that each child and each family is different.”
Suggestions at home include keeping children smartphone free until at least the age of 13, ensuring any devices are used in shared spaces, and introducing certain platforms gradually, over time.
The school has also clarified their internal processes, which include remaining a phone-free environment at school, ensuring teaching is not dependent on digital approaches and that plenty of real-world experience is prioritised.
Beaudesert Park has also set out future digital objectives, such as providing digital parenting workshops, and the development of a digital literacy curriculum.
