Music at Beaudesert comprises of 3 aspects, which combined, seek to provide every child with the opportunity to develop as musicians.
Music Curriculum
The music curriculum at Beaudesert is designed to develop children’s musical knowledge and understanding through performing, composing, improvising and appraising music from a wide range of musical genre.
The primary aim of our ‘Music for All’ approach at Beaudesert is for all children to gain a love and appreciation of music by developing their musical understanding.
The curriculum for children in the Pre-Prep enables them to develop their singing and listening, foundational skills in reading and writing musical notation and a basic understanding of the musical elements.
During their time in the Prep School, children will build upon their knowledge and skills acquired in the Pre-Prep. Children will develop their understanding of the musical elements by exploring topics including Pentatonic music, African music, Reggae, Musical Theatre, Motown, The Blues, Jazz and Improvisation, Baroque/Classical/Romantic, Film music and the Orchestra. Through the study of these topics, children will have opportunities to apply their musical knowledge when performing, composing, listening and improvising.
Instrumental Teachers
It is our firm belief that every child deserves the enjoyment of learning a musical instrument and opportunities to experience the thrill of performing in a music ensemble with others. To this end, Beaudesert is fortunate to have an excellent team of nineteen visiting instrumentalists who provide over 300 music lessons per week to pupils from Year 2 to Year 8.
If you would like any further information about music at Beaudesert or individual music tuition for your children, please do not hesitate to contact our Director of Music, Mrs Saunders.
