We would like to wish everybody a very happy Christmas, and a superb start to the New Year. Sadly, the end of the year means we have had to say farewell to our wonderful Gap year students Hunter, Sebastian, Alex, Tess and Molly, but we look forward to welcoming our next year overseas students and seeing all the children back, raring to go, in January.
What an end of term we had!
On Monday there was the Christmas jumpers themed Boarders’ Christmas party. The school was alive with the sound of excited boarders playing party games and polishing off a sumptuous buffet supper before boogying into the early evening hours with our Gap year students.
The previous week, in what has become something of a tradition, a group of carolers took a trip down the hill into Nailsworth, heading for The Steppes residential care home. There they met some of the residents and sang carols, moving about the building as they did so to make sure as many people as possible could hear and join in. Our Consort Choir also sang beautifully to a rather larger audience at the Nailsworth Noel event in the town earlier in the month.
Back to last week and the school was awash with glittery jumpers and tinselly tresses on Thursday – perfectly timed to coincide with the school Christmas lunch. In Pre-prep the children also came in sporting a wonderful concoction of home-made Christmas hats ready for the annual Christmas Hat Competition. Only ever so slightly more exciting was a surprise visit from Father Christmas!
The Pre-prep Carol Concert in the Performing Arts Centre was a gorgeous, melodious affair on Tuesday. The children sang their hearts out en masse and also with the odd accomplished and courageous solo in the mix. The final flourish was the Prep Carol Service in St George’s in Nailsworth. From the rousing carols to the choral performances, the service was full of special moments and Christmas magic. Very well done to three of our choirs: Junior Choir, Beaudesert Voices and Consort.
