Our annual Autumn Charity Fair took place on Saturday 14th October and was a great success raising £10,300 for two local charities. There was a wide variety of approximately 40 stalls selling all sorts of products from lacquered trays to cashmere, printed stationery to olive oil. In addition to some old favourites, there were a number of new stalls and, for the first time, a pizza van and coffee bike and delicious catering by Joanna Parker. This year the recipients of the proceeds were the creche at the Nelson Trust and Allsorts.
The Nelson Trust is a charity operating since 1985, which works with and beyond addiction to inspire change. They are committed to working for the benefit of communities to address the needs of people with substances misuse problems, to support those in recovery and those affected by addiction and its associated consequences. They aim to work where the constellation of substance misuse, trauma, offending and abuse lead to multiple and severe deprivation which impacts on women and whole families, often perpetuating problems from one generation to the next.
Allsorts is a charity for Gloucestershire families who have children with disabilities. They run activities for the whole family including youth clubs, sports sessions, siblings group, a specialist Toy Library and family day trips.
They welcome families who have a child or young person with any disability or additional need 0-25, with or without diagnosis.
Allsorts aims high for disabled children and their families and their vision is for disabled children to have the same opportunities as everyone else. They are innovative and ambitious and take action to deliver much-needed activities for families and disabled children.
The charity was set up in 2009 by parents with disabled children with the emphasis on having fun and supporting each other, while understanding the strain that disabilities and additional needs can put on families.
Allsorts activities are based in Stroud District and are open to families and children throughout Gloucestershire.
